Influence of In-Situ Oil Sands Development on Caribou (Rangifer tarandus) Movement

Published: Oct 31, 2015
Description: Researchers used simulations to determine how caribou step length and annual home range size is influenced by future in-situ oil sands developments (ISDs). Maintaining permeability across ISDs had the most positive impact on movement, whereas spacing between ISDs had no effect. Simulations showed that even a modest improvement to permeability across ISD's results in a disproportionately positive impact on caribou.
