Native Vegetation Edge
This product displays the amount and location of native vegetation—in other words, areas not visibly disturbed by humans—at different distances (buffers) from human footprint.

Tracking Native Vegetation
The ABMI provides information on the amount and location of native vegetation in Alberta through the 2015 Edge Buffer Layer (Version 1.0). These products display the amount of native vegetation (circa 2012) categorized by four buffer distances—0-50 m, 50–200 m, 200–2000 m, and > 2000 m—away from human footprint. Because linear features can have large effects on the amount of interior habitat, distance from human footprint was measured when linear features were included as human footprint and when linear features were excluded as human footprint. This buffer analysis is important because, depending on the species, the habitat suitability of native vegetation may change with the proximity of human land use activities.
