The Yellow Rail is a small, secretive marsh bird that is difficult to survey because of its preference for marsh and fen habitats, and nocturnal behaviour. The EMCLA (Ecological Monitoring Committee for the Lower Athabasca) has developed a new, cost-effective approach for monitoring Yellow Rail using automated recording units. This report outlines a coordinated sampling program that will be undertaken in 2013 to improve knowledge of Yellow Rails in the LAPR while supporting companies to meet their EPEA approval requirements.
