A New Method to Estimate Species and Biodiversity Intactness Using Empirically Derived Reference Conditions

Published: Dec 31, 2006
Description: This research article proposes a method to measure species status and trends that relies on estimates of reference conditions. Traditionally, reference conditions are derived from protected areas, but these data are often biased. By using statistically estimated species ranges, biodiversity intactness can be determined without using biased reference conditions.
