Background

Since 2007, ABMI has monitored Alberta’s wetlands through our Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program. Over the past 15 years, we have collected valuable baseline information on macroinvertebrates, vascular plants, and environmental covariates such as bathymetry and basic water quality from 1,700 wetland sites across the province. This effort has been enhanced by recent satellite-based wetland mapping initiatives, including a comprehensive, Alberta-wide wetland class inventory.

As we look to the future, we want to ensure our approach remains relevant and valuable to all our partners, collaborators, and stakeholders. We are gathering information in a 10-15 minute survey on current uses of wetland data, the types of information that are useful, and any gaps or additional data needs.

We welcome responses from all sectors, including government, academia, Indigenous communities, all levels of governments, industry (energy, forestry, agriculture), NGOs, the general public, and more.

Survey deadline: August 15, 2024
