Bioacoustic Unit Research Assistant Contract Work

Work Schedule: 5-40 hours / week depending on work availability and hourly rate
Contract Amount: Hourly rate is $24 - $28 / hour CAD depending on experience; maximum amount for the entire term is $30,000 CAD

Job Description: The Bioacoustic Unit is looking to establish a contract for some short-term Research Assistant support. The tasks and projects relate to environmental sensor data (autonomous recording units [ARUs], remote camera traps), and bioacoustic research and technology. Tasks can include but are not limited to: data management and quality control, automated recognition development, analysis of acoustic data sets and reporting.

Essential Qualifications:

  • BSc in a relevant discipline. MSc or PhD is a strong asset

  • Proficient in R and GIS; knowledge of other programming languages to solve novel data management problems is a strong asset

  • Reliable, able to commit to part-time work and can meet deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Peer-reviewed publications is an asset.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Canadian taxa (birds, amphibians and / or mammals) identification by sound or sight; experience can be through point counts, audio data transcription or camera trap tagging
