Dr. Jim Schieck

“It has been exciting to help develop a program that collects info on hundreds critters, everything from moose to moss, and see how biological communities vary throughout Alberta.”

Jim Schieck is the ABMI’s Science co-Director. Concurrently, he holds the position of Research Scientist at Alberta Innovates Technology Futures—an ABMI partner, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta. He has published more than 30 papers in scientific journals, helped to organize more than 20 workshops, and produced more than 100 client reports. Jim obtained his PhD at the University of Alberta on the topic of “Habitat Selection, Movement and Reproductive Success of Willow Ptarmigan in Northwestern British Columbia.”

Through his various roles, Jim has accumulated extensive experience developing and leading large ecological research projects. These projects involve collaboration with researchers having expertise or specialties in plant ecology, wildlife ecology, statistical analyses, and conservation biology. Jim’s expertise includes avian ecology, population dynamics, community ecology, forest ecology, and conservation biology.
