A Remote Camera Community of Practice in Alberta

POSTED ON:

Over the past few years, the ABMI has been part of a group of remote camera researchers and practitioners who have come together in an Alberta community of practice, overseen by a Steering Committee. The goal is to advance the science of remote camera monitoring and research, while facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among remote camera users in Alberta.

Earlier this summer, the Alberta Steering Committee signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with WildCAM (Wildlife Cameras for Adaptive Management) to collaborate on and coordinate outreach and scientific activities. WildCAM is a network of camera trap researchers, practitioners, and citizen scientists that aims to support effective wildlife management through encouraging coordination in camera trap surveys and data synthesis in western Canada. The WildCAM website contains a compilation of resources and best practices for beginner to advanced camera users, and members have access to resources such as webinars, a project directory, and upcoming internal discussion forums. The future of remote camera work is bright!
