Ecological Recovery Monitoring of Certified Sites in Alberta: Existing Information and Analysis of Ecological Condition Following Reclamation

Published: Mar 16, 2013
Author(s): ABMI
Description: This report was developed to review existing data resources to identify datasets that could be relevant for monitoring reclaimed oil and gas footprints in Alberta. It also was to determine existing Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) data resources that may be relevant for monitoring the ecological recovery of reclaimed lands in Alberta. This report focuses on determining four research issues: i) how ecological conditions can be assessed at sites in cultivated lands, native grasslands, and forested lands; ii) how ecological condition of certified sites varies among ecosite types; iii) how ecological condition of certified sites changes over time after certification; and iv) how various reclamation treatments affect ecological recovery.
